Social Responsibility at Shalina

At Shalina Healthcare, social responsibility is an essential component of both our vision and core values. We are committed to developing the communities in which we operate: through funding and building regional infrastructure and also giving opportunities to local Congolese people through training and long-term career options

Our priority is to focus on projects that are self-sustaining and empower the local community to help itself. To date, we have invested in projects across infrastructure, healthcare and education. Two such projects are the Shalina Eye Clinic in Lubumbashi and the Employee Housing Scheme in Kinshasa:

Shalina Eye Clinic

Our Vision: to eliminate needless blindness through comprehensive, compassionate and quality eye care services for all members of the society

The Shalina Eye Centre was inaurgurated on 8th Dec 2007. Shalina Group has covered the cost of start-up infrastructure and equipment for the Eye Clinic. This is a non-profit organization for the general public and aims to become self sustainable.

Overseas training of local surgical and nursing staff has been funded by Shalina . Treatment is free for most patients and subsidized by some paying patients. The eye clinic target 320 surgeries per month and has out-reach programs to help those patients who cannot afford to come to Lubumbashi for treatment. Apart from surgeries the clinic has 100 outpatients per day

Shalina Employee Housing Scheme

Kinshasa, the capital of Democratic Republic of Congo, is the birth place of Shalina’s operations in Africa.

Shalina’s success in large part is due to the dedication and commitment of its people many of whom have been with the company since its inception

To demonstrate our appreciation, Shalina is building a housing community with 100 furnished houses for its local people. The community will access electricity lines drawn to it and fresh water for its people. Shalina has a strong family spirit running throughout its organisation and we place great value on the importance of community and our social responsibilities as an organisation.
