Mechanism of Action

The sodium bicarbonate neutralises stomach acidity.The addition of citric acid promotes effervescence and combats metabolic alkalosis.

Side Effects

Temporary metabolic alkalosis and sodium overload.

Contradictions

Arterial hypertension, renal insufficiency.

Observations

Relax has a transient action giving rise to acid secretion rebound. It is a systemic antacid sometimes resulting in inappropriate quantities of salt (caution in cases of arterial hypertension and oedema).
