Pharmacological Properties
Anticholinergic

Mechanism of Action
Cyproheptadine is a serotonin and histaminic antagonist with anticholinergic and sedative effects. It also blocks Ca+2 channels in pancreatic islet cells and smooth muscles. It increases appetite and causes weight gain. L-lysine monohydrochloride is an essential amino acid (protein building block), which can not be produced by the body from other nutrients. It exerts a marked effect on growth, It is especially important from the viewpoint of the nutrition. It helps to ensure adequate absorption of calcium and the formation of collagen from bones, cartilageand connective tissues. Lysine strengthens circulation and helps the immune system manufacture antibodies. It is necessary for all amino acid assimilation & assists in the storage of fats. Vitamin B1 - Thiamine Hydrochloride is a water soluble vitamin which plays an essential role in carbohydrate metabolism and deficiency of which may result in severe neuromuscular syndrome such as beri-beri or Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome. Side Effects
Rarely observed side effects are dizziness, fatigue, headache etc.Prolong use of L'APETI syrup may result in to confusion, sedation,dry mouth,blurred vision, urinary retention, gastrointestinal disturbances etc.

Contradictions
L'APETI is not suitable to the patients with prostate hypertrophy, urinary retention, glaucoma, stenosing peptic ulcer, pyloroduodenal obstruction. It is also not suitable to debilitated patients, patients with known hypersensitivity to one of the components and neonates.

Observations
• Alcoholic drinks are not recommended during treatment
Antihistamines should not be used in the symptomatic treatment of broncho-pulmonary diseases, particularly in asthma attacks
Avoid activities requiring alertness and coordination (driving or operating machinery and mechanical equipment)
Antihistamine overdosage, especially in the nursing infant and children can cause hallucinations, CNS depression and convulsions
