Mechanism of Action
• Calcium - About 20% to 35% of ingested calcium is absorbed.

Moderate protein binding takes place most of which is with albumin.
•
Vitamin D3 - A fat soluble vitamin. It promotes intestinal absorption of calcium and facilitates reabsorption of calcium from the kidneys

Contradictions
• Hypercalcaemia

Hypercalciuria

Severe renal insufficiency
Observations
• In patients with hyperparathyroidism, kidney stones, Calcium may impair the absorption of tetracyclines, fluoride or iron. Thiazide diuretics reduce urinary calcium excretions, so the risk of hypocalcaemia should be considered.
