Napril is used to treat hypertension and other conditions

Indications
• Essential Hypertension (all grades)

Reno vascular hypertension

As an adjunct in management of Congestive Heart Failure
Pharmacological Class
Orally active ACE inhibitor.
Pharmacological Properties
Antihypertensive.
Mechanism of Action
• Napril 5/10 tablets, after desertification into the active enalaprilat, inhibits angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) which suppresses renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system and hence lowers the blood pressure
•
Enalapril Maleate is antihypertensive even in patients with low-renin hypertension
Side Effects
• This medication may cause nausea, rash, persistent cough, muscle cramps, dizziness, headache, angiodema & renal failure.
•
Decrease in haemoglobin, red blood corpuscles and platelets, angioneurotic edema
Contradictions
• Napril 5/10 tablets is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to this product and in patients with a history of angioedema related to previous treatment with an angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor and in patients with hereditary or idiopathic angioedema
•
Contraindicated in pregnancy, nursing mothers
•
With diuretics hypotensive action is potentiated. May increase lithium levels
•
Risk of bone marrow suppression increased with concomitant therapy with immunosuppressive drugs (cyclophosphamide, azathioprine)
•
NSAIDs blunt its hypotensive effect
Observations
• Should not be refrigerated
•
Keep in a dark place
•
Keep out of the reach of children
