| Mechanism of Action |
• Loprade inhibits, by means of a direct peripheral effect, the propulsive contractions of the intestine
• It prevents the intraluminal excretion of water and electrolytes without affecting the central nervous system

| Side Effects |
Rare : (nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, abdominal pain and constipation)
|

| Contradictions |
• Acute episode of haemorrhagic recto-colitis.
• Children under the age of 2 years
|

| Observations |
• Not to be used as long term treatment of dysentery
• Stop the treatment at onset of constipation or abdominal distension
|
