| Mechanism of Action |
The action of Maladox is based on the synergistic action of its components, which blocks the 2 enzymes involved in the biosynthesis of folinic acid.Sulfadoxine inhibits the transformation of para-aminobenzoic acid into folic acid required by the haematozoon for growth, whilst the pyrimethamine blocks the biosynthesis of folinic acid from folic acid, which is needed for the synthesis of the nucleic acids

Rare gastrointestinal disorders, allergic skin reactions, blood abnormalities

| Contradictions |
• Those relating to sulphonamide therapy.
• End of pregnancy (risk of neonatal jaundice)
• Lactation not recommended due to passage into breast milk.

| Observations |
• In the event that the treatment has to be repeated several times, a minimum of 8 days must elapse between doses.
• In case of overdose : gastric lavage, administration of folinic acid and monitoring of blood count for 15 days following intoxication.
