Moxyclav

Amoxicillin is a penicillin antibiotic used to treat a variety of infections

• Injectables
• Tablets

Indications
MOXYCLAV 625 is an antibiotic agent with a notably broad spectrum of activity against the commonly occurring bacterial pathogens in general practice and hospital. The ß-lactamase inhibitory action of clavulanate extends the spectrum of amoxicillin to embrace a wider range of organisms, including many resistant to other ß-lactam antibiotics. MOXYCLAV 625 oral presentations for twice daily dosing, amindicated for short-term treatment of bacterial infections at the following sites : Upper respiratory tract infection (including ent) e.g. tonsillitis, sinusitis, otits media.Lower respiratory tract infections e.g. acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, lobar and bronchopneumonia.Genito-urinary tract infections e.g. cystitis, urethritis, pyelonephritis.Skin and soft tissue infections e.g. boils, abscesses, cellulites, wound infections.Bone and joint infections e.g. osteomyelitis. Dental infections e.g. septic abortion, puerperal sepsis, intra-abdominal sepsis. A comprehensive list of susceptible organisms is pr

Pharmacological Class
Broad Spectrum Antibiotic

Pharmacological Properties
Broad Spectrum beta lactamase.

Mechanism of Action
Clavulanic acid binds and inhibits beta-lactamases that inactive amoxicillin having an expanded spectrum of activity. Amoxicillin inhibits bacterial cell synthesis by binding to one or more of the penicillin-binding protein (PBPs) which in turn inhibits the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis in bacterial cell walls, thus inhibiting cell wall biosynthesis. Bacteria eventually lyse due to ongoing activity of cell wall autolytic enzymes (autolysins and murein hydrolases) while cell wall assembly is arrested

Side Effects
Gastrointestinal disorders Adults : Very common Diarrhoea, Common Nausea, vomiting Children :Common Diarrhoea, nausea, vomitingAll populations: Nausea is more often associated with higher oral dosages. If gastrointestinal reactions are evident, they may be reduced by taking MOXYCLAV 625 at the start of a meal.

Contradictions
MOXYCLAV 625 is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to beta-lactams, e.g. penicillins and cephalosporins. MOXYCLAV 625 is contraindicated in patients with a previous history of -associated jaundice/hepatic dysfunction.
