Inhibits the protein synthesis of the organism Side Effects Very rare - fever, eosinophilia, skin rash and especially cholestatic hepatitis Contradictions • None, except in case of hypersensitivity to erythromycin. • Caution in case of pregnancy Observations • Inactivated in acid medium • The presence of food impedes its absorption. • If combined with theophylline or aminophylline (asthma), reduce the dose of the latter
