Anaflam

Indications
Pain disorders, dental pain, headache, neuralgia, dysmenorrhoea. febrile states, rheumatism (rheumatoid polyarthritis, ankylosing spondylarthritis)
Pharmacological Class
• Ibuprofen : propionic acid derivative.

Paracetamol : Para-aminophenol derivative
Pharmacological Properties
Anti-inflammatory, Antipyretic
Mechanism of Action
Ibuprofen :
•
Analgesic, antipyretic : inhibition of cyclo-oxygenase and prostaglandin synthesis
•
Anti-inflammatory : inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis. Paracetamol:
•
Peripheral analgesic
•
Centrally acting antipyretic on the hypothalamus thermal control centre by inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis
Side Effects
Ibuprofen : gastro-intestinal effects, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, dizziness, and headache. Paracetamol : rare (except skin rash allergies)
Contradictions
• Established allergy to ibuprofen, active gastroduodenal ulcer, severe hepato-cellular insufficiency, severe renal insufficiency, pregnancy, (from 6th month), lactation.
Observations
• Food delays the absorption of ibuprofen.
•
During the 3rd trimester, all the prostaglandin synthesis inhibitors can expose : -The foetus to cardiopulmonary toxicity. -The mother and child at the end of pregnancy to potential prolonged bleeding time
