Tinizol is an anti-protozoal drug used against protozoal infections. Tinizol is used in the treatment of Amebiasis, Giardiasis and Trichomoniasis

Molecule: Tinidazole
Formulation: Tinidazole 500mg Tablets
Packaging Unit: 4 Tablets
Dosage: Anaerobic bacterial infections Adults: 2gm on 1st day, followed by 1gm daily as a single dose or 500mg bid for 5-6 days. Intestinal amoebiasis Adults: Single daily dose of 2gm for 2 or 3 days. Tinidazole therapy to be followed by a luminal amoebicide (e.g. paromomycin). Children: A single daily dose of 50-60mg/kg daily for 3 days. Tinidazole therapy to be followed by a luminal amoebicide (e.g. paromomycin).
Indications
Trichomoniasis, Giardiasis, Amoebiasis, bacterial vaginosis, anaerobic bacterial infections.
Pharmacological Class
Nitro-imidazole derivative.
Pharmacological Properties
Active on amoeba, trichomonas, candida and bactericidal on gram+ and gram- anaerobic organisms
Mechanism Of Action
It inhibits DNA synthesis in microorganism.
Side Effects
Metallic taste, nausea, headache, vomiting, dark urine, flushing, anorexia, diarrhoea, tiredness, transient leucopenia.
Contraindications
Blood dyscrasias, organic neurologic disorders, hypersensitivity to 5-nitroimidazole derivatives, porphyria. Lactation, pregnancy (1st trimester).
Observations
Alcohol should be avoided until 72 hours after stopping therapy. Should be taken with food.(Take during or immediately after meals)
