Shalina Healthcare investing in communities

 In Company News

The 6th of August 2019 was a proud moment for representatives of the Shalina Healthcare team as they turned on the taps at the brand new water purification plant in the tiny village of Haripar in Lalpur Taluka, India. Over 100 villagers and schoolchildren gathered for the excitement and festivities, listening to the speeches and watching the dance performances by the schoolchildren.

This clean drinking water project, which includes tap arrangements and nearby seating, will provide 12 000 litres of clean water a day, along with a system to use any wastewater for drip irrigation. Mr Sushil Agarwal and Ms Naazmin Shaikh from Shalina Laboratories joined a guest from the Anarde Foundation, along with several government ministers, to talk about the value of this project.

This is of course not a first for Shalina. In 2016, they sponsored a sustainable rural water plant project in Adum Dominase, a village in the Takoradi region of Ghana, in association with Project Maji. This water pump now offers clean, potable water to 5000 people a day.

The purification plant in Haripar village, India, is in fact part of a much larger campaign, spearheaded by our Promoter, Mrs Neelam Virji, who plans to do many similar projects across Western India this year. The Ghana success, along with the recent milestone in India, speaks to the deep commitment Shalina has to invest in the communities wherever they do business.
